That site seems to not be working.  Can you summarise what it said?  And "who" was saying it?

I am inclined to regard those Guyana Greenpeace stamps as genuine.  They are very high-quality, professional productions, and Greenpeace certainly had no motivation to expend such a large sum to produce an issue of stamps for some other country.

Greenpeace never did such things before.  The only time they did do stamps was those issues shown earlier in this thread, printed for them by New Zealand stamp dealers, who in return got a proportion of the stamps to retain and sell off. As an environmental group, their funds were aimed at their campaigns, and I doubt that expenditure on such a thing as "pseudo-Guyana stamps" would have ever made the cut.

And Guyana has always been an "extremely stampiferous" country!  I see that issue is not listed by Gibbons, which possibly reflects their management's disapproval of the politics involved here.

Here is a set of Greenpeace anniversary stamps done by Romania, which does have full SG listing:

Romania 1997 26th anniversary of Greenpeace. SG 5861 - 5864.

I have had these "stamps" for a few years, I can't remember where I got them from (probably eBay), but they seem to have been issued in 1996, definitely not by Guyana so I guess they are Greenpeace propaganda.

Antarctic Cinderellas are certainly numerous and attractive, especially the best of the lot. They all seem to carry stories behind them.

The greenpeace stamps are certainly available from NZ stamp dealers. i have a full list of them at http://www.newzeal.com/steve/greecind.html where they are all illustrated.

I have used them myself several times and they were used when greenpeace had thweir Antarctic base in operation. For several seasons I would send msail with these labels affixed either to their Auckland office, or take them to the ship involved when it called into Lyttelton (Port near Christchurch) and the items would eventually be delivered via their Antarctic base called "Gondwana".

Captain Arne Soresen himself would sometimes turn up in my shop bringing me my mail but more often it was another voyager or the local Greenpeace folk who would deliver them. As well as the labels denominated in NZ dollars there were 2 or 3 denominated in Australian dollars but I have never seen any of these used (except in error) as the Greenpeace Base was located in the New Zealand part of the antarctic called victorialand.

The Greenpeace stamps were commercially printed in Christchurch.  there was also a large sheet of Greenpeace yellow bordered cinderellas without face values.

I don't think that these Greenpeace stamps are currently available. A New Zealand catalogue that I have suggests that they were issued from 1986-1995. Some should be available from New Zealand dealers on ebay and other such sites.

Just recieved post after getting back from school. I recieved a letter telling of a new set of stamps depicting endangered animals. I thought it tied in with the greenpeace theme.
The first is a poor picture of the cover to be released. There is also a new 50p attached.

The animals are:
African Elephant
Mountain Gorilla
Siberian Tiger
Polar Bear
Amur Leopard
Iberian Lynx
Red Panda
Black Rhinoceros
African Wild Dog
Golden Tamarin

This will make these Local or Private Post stamps I assume. What would be nice is to see a genuinely used cover, as opposed to an FDC or manufactured item produced for sale to collectors.
