Stamp 2 is from Ukraine.  A general issue of the National Republic proclaimed on 22 January 1918.  It's from a set of 5 issued in July 1918. Denomination is 20 Shahiv (100 shahiv = 1 Hryvna; 2 Hryvni = 1 Rouble).  The design is a peasant.  They are always imperforate.  It is SG2 and valued at 20 pence mint and 50 pence used in 1999.

The Ykp... etc word across the top spells Ukraine.

Label 3 is from a franking machine but I'm not sure what the question is.  It must have been stuck on a meaty parcel to attract a charge of 16/6.  I bet there will be an expert along in a minute.

No, you will have to wait and wait, and then three will come along all together

. . . in a past life (1959-1960), I worked for a while in an office in London. duties including some in the Post Room. We could print off most any value of label on the franking machine, but in practice rarely exceeded 10/-, being 50p in modern parlance. We sent out auction catalogues for 500 item sales, sometimes in sixes. They weighed a lot, but went for around 12.5p to 25p. So 16/6 or 82.5p would be a massive weight to send by letter post, which is what our post went out as. Something that heavy would usually go 'Parcel Post' and thus much cheaper, and stamped or franked at the Post Office Counter.

It was common for Companies to use the frank to advertise themselves or the services that they provided, but that doesn't seem to have happened here. The four flowers are clearly representing the four individual countries within the UK. London W1 is the area around Hanover Square and the Oxford St - Bond St - Regents St area. Shops and offices at that time.

A corolation between the date 16/11/61 and the postal value 16/6 is probably coincidental.

That's my twopence worth. Wink

I think you'll find my detailed response was much better than Peter's!  I had to reach across the room to my Russia stamp catalogue, Peter just had so reminisce about when he was a lad.  LOL

Looking at Royal Mail postage rates for 1961 (on the interweb honest - no I don't own them) I calculate that the item weighed in at 16lb 4 oz if it was sent letter post.  Calculation: 1/6 got you 1lb 4oz and each further 2oz cost 1.5d. So each extra 1lb cost 1/-.  so 15/- = 15lb weight and the initial 1/6 rounds the cost to 16/6 and weight to 16lb 4oz.  Geek

So much better for working your brain than these girly kilos and decimalized £ don't you think.  Bring back Groats.

The interesting thing about that is that there was just the slightest possibility that people could assess how much an item was going to cost to post - 1lb = 1/-. Smile
