Sandy Island For the delectation of cinderella collectors everywhere, here are some details on the stamps of Sandy Island, an ephemeral stamp-issuer thought to be in the Caribbean. These are the brainchild of a veteran Italian philatelist.  Sandy Island 2016 Airmail and Philately issue.

Sandy Island Here is the very first stamp of Sandy Island.  Sandy Island Map issue.
Sadly I cannot recall the date these were done, but think it was 2014 or 2015. Fabio was on the committee organising a Stamp Exhibition in Milan, Italy, and a professional artist did the design. The four folks shown in the oval are the organising committee. I was sent the image and instructed to reduce it down and print it "in the exact size of the http://www.caymanpost.gov.ky/portal/page/portal/poshome/stampcollecting" rel="nofollow - Cayman Islands 1935 pictorials." Fortuitously, http://www.caymanpost.gov.ky/portal/page/portal/poshome/stampcollecting" rel="nofollow - Cayman Islands is one of the lands whose stamps I seriously collect, so I was able to comply with this request. The committee required a huge quantity of this stamp, as one was apparently mounted in each catalogue of the show, and handed out to every attendee. A curious aspect of the design is that the artist who did the design has also included his own visage, twice, on either side of the shield containing the denomination!  Sandy Island Map issue, minisheet. A small number of minisheets comprising ten stamps were also printed, and I believe everyone who exhibited was presented with a minisheet along with their certificate or medal. |

Hi the map is of the South Pacific not the Caribbean. Other than that they are some nice looking stamps.

 Sandy Island 2019 minisheet, including the poisonous blue frog on one value! Sandy Island, a small Pacific outpost, has had its distinctive stamps
for several years now, and in 2019, issued this attractive set to show
some of its charming wildlife. Here is the minisheet, which comprises
several values, including the blue frog, butterfly, and squirrel.
=== The blue poison dart frog or okopipi (Dendrobates tinctorius "azureus") is found in the forests surrounded by the Sipaliwini savanna, in southern Suriname & northern Brazil, and on Sandy Island. Its scientific name comes from its azure color. It breeds seasonally, usually during February or March when the weather is rainy. To find mates, the males sit on a rock and produce quiet calls, which the females follow to track down the males. The females then physically fight over a male. The male takes the female to a quiet place by water, which becomes the site of the egg-laying. Once the eggs are laid, the male covers them in his sperm. Between five and 10 offspring are produced at each mating. Eggs are laid in the male’s territory, which he defends. The male takes care of the eggs, sometimes joined by the female. The eggs hatch after 14 to 18 days, and after 10 to 12 weeks the tadpoles are fully mature. Both sexes reach sexual maturity at two years of age. The expected lifespan of D. tinctorius "azureus" is between 4 and 6 years in the wild, and about 10 years in captivity. Squirrels are members of the family Sciuridae. They mate either once or twice a year and, following a gestation period of three to six weeks, give birth to a number of offspring that varies by species. The young are altricial, being born naked, toothless, and blind. The female alone looks after the young, which are weaned at six to ten weeks and become sexually mature by the end of their first year. The ground-dwelling squirrel species are social, often living in well-developed colonies, while the tree-dwelling species are more solitary. |

Obituary I am sad to report the death (from Covid-19) of Fabio Vaccarezza, founder and postmaster of Sandy Island, on 17th November 2020, in Milan. A truly wonderful gentleman, and a keen cinderella philatelist. He and I
collaborated on numerous projects, and sent each other stamps,
catalogues, and literature. He will be sorely missed. https://imgbox.com/6VnPe52z" rel="nofollow">  Fabio signs the Maurice Williams Roll of Distinguished Cinderella Philatelists, at the 2009 meeting of the Cinderella Stamp Club in U.K. Sadly, this means a temporary hiatus in the beautiful stamps of Sandy
Island, until such time as a new postmaster takes up the post.
