I am very sorry to say that this year's issue will be delayed, I am aiming now for a 14th March 2022  issue.

I have had a series of setbacks and today have decided to be realistic and face up to reality, apologies to everyone who might be looking out for news, I hope you will still be willing to collect in March.

Sorry to hear about setbacks, Colin. Hope nothing serious.

Something to look forward to in March for us all though! Yay!

Nothing truly serious Joolz, but thank you for the kind thoughts.

I feel really guilty to be honest, I have been issuing Valentine's stamps since 2004 and it feels very weird not having one (yet!) this year.

Regretfully, I have to ask for more time to complete the 2022 Isle of Vue issue  :-(

It's due to a combination of several small things but also a couple of enormous ones, and all beyond my control.

It WILL happen - it is at the printers right now - but there no way I can see it being ready to issue on Monday... please stay tuned!

And my apologies, again.

I don't think anyone thinks you need to apologise, Colin.

I think we're all just grateful to have the opportunity to obtain your miniature marvels whenever they become available.

I'm still working on it folks, I was aiming for the 23rd May* but now know that's not going to work...  Please bear with me  :-)

I don't suppose there will now be a great interest in this issue, coming so long after Valentine's Day, so hopefully it will be all the more collectable for that, over time   I'm certainly enjoying bringing it together   Wink

Hi Colin, sorry to hear that you have had so much trouble. I hope that the problems that you have had have now eased. You might even consider delaying the issue until next Valentine's Day?
At the end of the day I hope all is well with you.
Best wishes,
Daniel

Just wanted to confirm that I am
1) definitely interested in your stamps
2) not bothered what the date is when you release them (as long as it's soon!!)
3) hoping that you are OK

Colin,
Also, how about moving the theme from being 'date specific' (Valentine's, Christmas etc) to something more general. In which case it wouldn't matter so much if it was issued late, it could still be Isle of Vue. Or make Valentine's Day 'a moveable feast' on the Isle of Vue.
Just thinking of ways to take the pressure off you.
All best wishes,
Daniel

Thank you everyone for the support, andthe kind thoughts and advice.

The 'problem' has been more of a combination of things out of my control - some very good, some not so good, and a couple of absolute stinkers - and something had to give.  I don't want to put down on a public forum exactly what, but I genuinely hope/expect that it will not happen again.

It just goes to show that even when you reach a ripe old age and sometimes everything appears on the face of it to be getting rather repetitive and even predictable, it never pays to take anything for granted.

In the meantime I am bashing on with the Valentine's issue - definitely a moveable feast this year - it's almost there  :-)

Thank you all again.

Sending you positivity, Colin. We've been manic over the past three months with property stuff which has felt much more out of our control than we would have liked but has in the end mostly come together as planned with a couple of pieces still to slot into place though. So very glad not to have missed your issue whilst my attention has been very distracted and looking forward to something exciting from you in the near future. You'll be sending it to a new address though which will be quite a change for us after 21 years!

Here's a little work-in-progress photo...

Today I started to bring together all of the individual items that make up this year's issue, just to get a proper overview of what is still missing or needs finishing. Until today it has been scattered across different storage boxes in different parts of the house - as each element has been finished it as been stored separately as space allowed - so it's great to see it coming together as a single piece of work at last.

I've tried to avoid any spoilers in the photo below but best to not look TOO closely!

Still a way to go but as I said, it's all work in progress.  I just want you to know that I haven't fallen off the planet, just yet  :-)

All best, stay tuned!!!

NO!!!!

I apologise again for the delay but I am hoping to get the issue out now before the end of the month.  There have been a lot of unavoidable obstacles along the way* but these are clearing up now and I can now see the wood for the trees.

I am also ahead of myself on the 2023 Isle of Vue issue so no need to worry about that either! It will not be as expansive as the 2022 issue, lesson learnt!

Stamp design and production remains only a hobby for me and while in previous years I have been able to scrape into the February 14th deadline, it has all too frequently proved to be a challenge. This year events have completely overwhelmed what spare time I have had, it's been a difficult time all round.

Thanks again for all your patience.

* One recent and unscheduled 'interference' has been talking to a journalist about the early days of the Terry Pratchett stamps, which was more time-consuming and detailed than I had expected it to be - though I think the published results will one day prove interesting to many of the collectors here.

I hadn't realised that my full postal address is currently published somewhere on the Emporium website (or possibly on the Discworld Catalogue site?) so it had been easy for the publishers to find me despite Alan and my own names being removed from the stamps' history elsewhere.

I am sure this contravenes Data Protection Regulations these days (if someone published a private address here that was not their own I would ask them to remove it) but I suppose I should be grateful on this occasion to Steve James - or whoever - for inadvertently providing the free publicity and contact details.

When time permits I will make enquiries about how to enforce the removal of my address details in future.

Anyway, an ill wind and all that.  Wink

Good to hear.  I have had the funds set aside since February, and I am now looking forward to the 2023 stamps also.

And by the way, everyone knows you did the early Discworld stamps because Steve James has done a very good job of making sure your name is all over the Discworld Stamp Catalogue, as is Alan's, so all their new collectors should be able to see that too.

One positive effect of this issue being so late is it's almost Christmas - so you could ask your nearest and dearest to gift you a nice stout box for all your Cindy goodies!

What a compilation of items and ideas!

It is going to take me till the weekend to sort and read through everything and log what Was in that box. There is so much going on, at least from first glance.

I think members need to scan and post (or at least describe) what they receieved apart from the stamp sheets. How many collector's cards and postcards are there? Did we all get the same Quantum stamps? Just how many variants are there?

Nice to see a mention of the Laernu triangles; will read soon, and to see a familiar image on one of the cards. Anybody else recognise it?

Well, quite! I received my box yesterday and have opened it today and what an array of splendid items did spill forth from it. To such an extent that Colin felt that an index page of contents was a requirement this year. How organised! And much appreciated!

Time (at least as represented by the calendar) is an illusion to the man, but his (and Alan's) mastery of the two dimensions of space confined within his far-fetched philatelic terra firma is unreal. From my perspective, hours of fun to come and much table space required for laying everything out.

On the Laernu Trouven collectable cards, the stickers on the little brown envelopes note eight cards in one of the two sets and maybe imply eight also in the other. I have logged the numbers of the cards which I have, which I am missing, and which I have spares of. Here are the two lists behind spoiler tags in case you want to avoid any details until you have seen and checked over your own set.

Spoiler Spoiler
Bash & Crackwell: Have 2 3 4 7 8; Need 1 5 6; Swaps 3
Spoiler Spoiler
Turtle Conservation Society: Have 1 3 5 7; Need 2 4 6 8; Swaps 1 5

On the Quantum stamps, I got one in single form and three different (four stamps, one of which twice but a colour variant as far as I can tell) attached and tied by cancellation to the address label of the A4 envelope within my sturdy white box. Again, behind a spoiler tag.

Spoiler Spoiler
I had a mint single of the 60 Days Quantum Turkey and it, the 30 Days Quantum Rooster and the 90 Days Quantum Lobster (x2) on the A4 envelope.

Interested by your mention of "a familiar image". I wondered whether it is
Spoiler Spoiler
William Lole of mythical Gardens fame
on one of the postcards I received entitled
Spoiler Spoiler
'How to make your own turtle soup'.
But it will take a dig through my archives to check. What have you spotted?

The variant on the sheet of Turtle Stamps is easy to spot
Spoiler Spoiler
an extra fish at the top of the image
Particularly if you look at the commemorative covers !
and I've also spotted a second variant
Spoiler Spoiler
the turtle is eating a fish

The variant on the sheet of Tortoise shell Stamps is a little trickier
Spoiler Spoiler
on the LHS of the 1 FILIS reads downwards not upwards
and I've spotted a second variant
Spoiler Spoiler
two dots are missing at the bottom of the stamp

BUT Has anyone had any luck spotting the third variants ?

Posted By: Steve
Date Posted: 17 November 2022 at 11:30
For the Shell variants based on the proof sheet and as I see it
variant 2
Spoiler Spoiler
is missing dots and a deeper shade

variant 3
Spoiler Spoiler
is just a deeper shade

The Quantum stamps seem to be
30 Days Cockerel green
60 Days Turkey blue
90 Days Lobster red
I got the same as Joolz
The blue and green are quite similar blu my loose stamp held against the cancelled ones showed the differences

With the Collector's cards I received

Bash and Crackewell #s 1,2,3,5 and 7. spares of 3 and 5

Laernu turtles #s 1,5 and 7. with spare of 7

The familar image will only be familiar to those who subscribed to the Welsh Oddities series, and is on the B&C #5 card. I suspect some form of Whoniverse time rift playing its part.

I'm not making any promises about the 2024 issue being simple... I have LOTS of ideas for that one  Shocked

But with all the potential economic doom and gloom forecast for 2023 I think it's wise to go back to basics next February and perhaps, if I have time, add some companion pieces later in the year through Etsy to round it out.

Busy Christmas and New Year period so just saw your request, Steve.

Did you already source all of these or are there any still outstanding?

If still needed, I can send you images of: the blue 60 Days quantum stamp unpostmarked, Laernu Turtles cards numbers 3 and 5, and Bash & Crackwell cards numbers 4 and 8.

I've copied them into the Charles folder we share on dropbox.
Let me know whether that works.

Still keeping fingers crossed for some mixed bags of Laernu goodies to turn up somewhere in due course.

Unfortunately not. Dropbox hasn't worked for me for 3 years now. Not since my daughter posted 1441 photos of her new-born in there and over-filled allotted space. The only way to delete them is to subcribe to Dropbox which I am not doing.

Yeah! Let's put some pictures on the forum, please. We're on page 7 and no pics.

Thanks,

Hi Steve, you should have had the Quantum 60 Days blue in January via a dropbox link.

Here is the link again in case not:  https://www.dropbox.com/s/3118b79pzvmkxz2/Quantum%2060%20Days%20blue.jpg?dl=0" rel="nofollow - https://www.dropbox.com/s/3118b79pzvmkxz2/Quantum%2060%20Days%20blue.jpg?dl=0

Unfortunately, it's the only one of the three that I have in mint form.

And here is the green one. These mint singles were in the single stamps envelope.
