Gosh!  I've never been able to be the first person to post a new post in a virgin Forum before.  What power.

Of course my brain has done what brains do when confronted with this sort of opportunity  - it's gone blank.

My name is Keith and I am a stampaholic.

I've collected stamps for about 30 years.  My interest in Cinderellas comes from collecting the Discworld stamps of Colin Edwards/Alan Batley.  When they stopped appearing I joined the old forum and started collecting Colin/Alan's other offerings and also Steve Tandy' Welsh Postal Oddities and, latterly, Hilary Daniels' Pharos issues.

I am interested in learning more about the wider world of Cinderellas and I'm hoping to learn lots from you all.  When you all arrive that is.  For the minute I'll just tap my foot and wait....  Patiently.

Keith

and I'm Steve as you can guess

I too have a more than healthy interest in many types of Cinderella stamps, and I am grateful for this forum and its predecessor for giving me the opportunity to paly at some of my own design and stuff.

When I am not dabbling in philately I have a range of interests - formula one and collecting the model racing cars thereof, carnivorous plants, amateur paleaontology, the music of Pink floyd amongst other things. Please dont get me interested in anything new.

Greetings to all...

Colin has been prompting me ever since he started the first forum, to join the group here. Today's the day that it finally occured, thanks to his notice of this new forum site (and a follow-up by Steve T., as well). Thanks to both of you for letting me know about this new forum site and to Colin, for your continued prompting.

Many here may already know me, as I wear a number of hats when it comes to all the various types of Cinderella stamps (philatelic alternatives) of today. Hopefully, you may also collect some of my stamps. Or, perhaps we've been able to help you get started in stamps of your own, one way or another.  The Olathe Poste has been around in concept since early 2000 and commercially since 2002.

To keep things simple here for now, here's a few of the high points...

Star Some of my art works are published as artistamps under the "authority" of The Olathe Poste as artistamps.

Star Some of my works, as an artist, stamp designer and producer are published under the "authority" of my personal local post, known to many collectors throughout the world as the International Local Post.

Star And for those of you who may also collect postmarks and are familiar with Mailer's Postmark Permits (MPPs), I am known to many because of our variety of postmarks (currently about 60-plus designs) that we cancel mail with here at The Olathe Poste and Intl. Local Post HQ, everyday.  (I'm also member #841 of the http://www.mppclub.org - Mailer's Postmark Permit Club , here in the U.S.)

Star I'm also a member of the American Philatelic Society and one of their advertisers in the APS' excellent monthly journal, The American Philatelist.

And, of course, you may have seen The Olathe Poste trade-name on stamps or stamp sheets that we've produced for other artists and enthusiasts around the world.

If you've got some time to spare and care to learn more our operations, here's a few URLs to check out that will give you more information about us...

  • Overview of our entire operation: http://www.wcp-nm.com - http://www.wcp-nm.com
  • The Olathe Poste web site: http://www.theolatheposte.com - http://www.theolatheposte.com
  • Stamp making supplies & some of our collectibles here: http://shop.wcp-nm.com - http://shop.wcp-nm.com
  • Other stamp offerings here: http://www.stampwants.com/stores/TOPstamps/ - http://www.stampwants.com/stores/TOPstamps/

Thanks again for the invite, Colin, and all my best wishes to you all!

Hello Again Everyone
I've signed up again as Murgatroyd... because it's the name that I always use on forums... every forum board I join, just for consistency... Some of you may know me as Charles Braham, but believe me... Murgatroyd's a much more interesting chap.
I became involved with Cinderella stamps through Discworld stamps, and they remain my primary interest. I've been reading the discworld stories since they first appeared, all those years ago, and have always loved Terry's work. I came to the stamps rather late though, I started to put my collection together last November, and in 5 months I've aquired all but about 56 of the little devils. Out of those 56 remaining stamps, I'm more or less resigned to the fact that I'll never own about 25... because they either are simply not available, or would be too expensive if they did become available... (Blue Triangle sport, Green Susan Sport etc. etc.) So realistically I've got about 31 left to get... and I'm working on it. I'm not doing quite so well with the sheets... I have nearly 100 sheets, and I reckon I still need about 50, give or take... (These are the "Common" sheets... not one of a kind prizes.... Can't afford them either.) It seems that I am attempting a Champaigne collecting habit on small beer resources... providing I don't go broke, I'll try and hang on in there though.
However my dallience with Discworld stamps has led me into other flirtations, I've involved myself with Steve's wonderful Postal Oddities of Wales, Hilary's beautiful lighthouses, and some of Colin's lovely items as well. So It looks as though I'm now a confirmed Flatalist, and Philanderer...
Just to make things more complicated, I buggered off to retire in Thailand a couple of years ago, and now live just outside Bangkok with my beautiful Thai Wife and her seven year old daughter. Thailand's a lovely country, and I'm enjoying myself very much. Shame that my postman here could teach Nobby Nobbs a thing or two about larceny, and I have to have everything sent by a "Sign for on delivery" service to prevent him from routinely nicking it...
I'm so glad that this forum has risen Phoenix like from the ashes of the previous one... I was missing it.

Hi  I'm Jonty, a refugee and ship wreck survivor from the wreck of the old Cinderella's forum. and also a member of the C.A forum

Got into Cinderella's in 2005, when I discovered Discworld Stamps, from there I started collecting anything else that Colin and Alan churned out  and recently started on Hilary's Pharos Stamps.
I have considered collecting The "Tetra Terra" and "Welsh oddities" from members on this here Forum, and so far have managed to abstain, for which my wallet is truly grateful Shift+R improves the quality of this image. Shift+A improves the quality of all images on this page.

Hi,
I collect all about insects and butterflies that can go through the mail. So logically stamps, cover, postcards, postal stationary, but also cinderella. I stil do not have a precise concept about what is a cinderella. I collect also labels that can be affixed on covers, with insects. So any scan of insects or butterflies covers will be welcome.

Hello All

I have been inveigled into joining this Forum by those in the know who should know better than to let loose a Goon Show fanatic into your midst.

Some of you poor benighted souls may know of me from another Forum as 'Major Bloodnok' (though Bluebottle is my fav Goon Show character).

This means I am a a Flatelist virtually from the beginning of its conception and I have some other Cinderellas as well.  However I am also a Philatelist or as Gryptyppe Thinne would have it 'You silly twisted boy'.  Certainly trying to collect GB can be a fascinating topic and I do this with my partner, Penny.  I hope there will be an opportunity to 'talk' Philately as well as Cinderellas.  I love George V Seahorse stamps and GB Overprints (OP's).  Did you realise that GB OP's with Naru on were issued there.

Hi All

I too am a member from the old forum.

I must say that I am glad that this forum has been created.

I collect cinderellas WW but prefer up to World War II. One of my specialties are the TB seals from the Muskoka Free Hospital For Tuberculosis. To get examples of all that were issued on covers / cards is a challenge.

I wish this forum all the best.

Happy collecting

I have produced a few bogus locals myself including one from Mumbles Head and three from the 'Caldey Island Dependencies' (St Catherine's Island, St Margarets Island & Goscar Rock)

I'm currently working on some new stamps and will start a thread to show them off.

Hi, I am a collector of worldwide revenues (and some cinderellas). Have a look at my website:

on Netherlands Revenues. I have a vast knowledge on worldwide revenues so if anyone has a question on revenues don't hesitate to ask.
I also have a reasonable knowledge on Cinderellas in general.
I am always looking to exchange revenues and have fine collections from  most countries.

Hello,
I was also in the old forum, but I could not use it many times because sometime my login was not succesful. I love Cinderellas  but I am specialzed in Locals of the World.
So, please, if anyone have  questions about local stamps, old and modern, phantoms and oddities he can ask to me and I will try to help him. I love also to write  short articles which refer to the story behind stamps.
I am Italian so I am also a moderator in an Italian Forum of philately. I do not invite you to visit it because few people know Italian language. But if you visit my website where I report  some topics with subjects and images we talked about in that forum, probably you may find something of your interest. So go to  http://www.cifr.it/summayforumphilately.html - http://www.cifr.it   or better visit the summary in English version, so you may choose pages in English.    http://www.cifr.it/summayforumphilately.html - http://www.cifr.it/summayforumphilately.html  .
Hoping to  begin with lovely topic on Locals of the world, including a section with UPOs (undefined Philatelic  objects) to be  identified, I send all my wishes for an Happy Easter Time!

hi all, i'm ian,

(strangedog on the discworld forum).

in the late 90's i used to produce occasional bits of "mail art" to coincide with some royal mail's "first day of issue", started collecting the discworld cinderellas after being shown one of the original dw assassins stamps and thinking "ooh, that's cool!", since then i have tried to collect colin's "laernu" and "isle of vue" stamps and have recently started with steve's "welsh oddities" and hilary's "pharos" stamps.

fingers crossed 2010 will be the year that i produce my first cinderellas!

Hello, I am Christopher. And I came upon this site while doing some research on some of the cinderellas that I have. I have been collecting postage stamps and cinderellas since I was 8years of age. I believe I have a nice grouping of each. I also study History, mainly world war 2.So I am new to this forum and I am in hopes of learning a deal more on cinderellas than that of the knowledge that I have. So any questions please feel free to ask. And I will do my best in answering them.

Hello,

My name is Greg Byrd. Most know me as toast. It's an alias I picked up due to my employment at the Toast Embassy in Seattle. The Embassy is the only semi-permanent functioning diplomatic facility between the Arky of Toast and Earth.

The Ambassador to Earth is John N. Knoph, who is occasionally in residence at the Embassy, and who is also the tentative head of Clan Knoph. The Knophs are one time Earth residents who emigrated to Toast. Jack's really not a bad guy compared to some of the others in the group.

Toast is a planet in the Pegasus system, circling the star Bellerophon, astronomically designated as the star 51 Pegasi (or 51 Peg for those who like to sling lingo). Although 51 Pegasi b is the official astronomical name of the planet, "Toast" was unceremoniously offered as a replacement by those who first offworlded there.

Clan Knoph consists largely of ne'er-do-well misfits who, mostly by chance, happened to have enough talent within the group to devise a relatively easy means of transport to their new "home". I am not privy to the specifics but can report that it entails a bit of folding and tearing and boring to make it work.

Toast was discovered in the late 1980's by one of the scientifically inclined Knophs. The find was kept quiet while a means of transport was being developed.

Although not yet quite fully functional, in the early 90's one of the Clan leaked news of the plans and directed Earth astronomers where to find the planet, which forced the Knophs to accelerate their plans and occupy the planet before it was laid claim to by others. Some mistakes were made.

I have been there on a few occasions but not since they closed travel to all outsiders about ten years ago. The "trip", although not long, is unpleasant and the side effects tend to recur, sometimes without warning.

At one time there was a Toast Tourist Bureau that accepted some limited visitation, but political turmoil on the planet, political charges and countercharges on Earth and a shift in priorities have all but eliminated the fledgling tourism industry.

The planet is run (loosely from my observation) by a form of government called an "Arky". I don't really understand how it works, as there's a bit more spontaneity involved in the decision making processes than anything to which I've become accustomed... and it is rather secretive in its inner machinations.

I stumbled upon the job at the Embassy by accident. I'm a generalist and was exhibiting some of my computer art when one of the Knophs inquired about my small works.

They were attempting to devise a rudimentary postal system that required Earth-Toast interplanetary delivery, general and air delivery on Toast, postings from the Embassy to various local destinations on Earth and official consular delivery through normal diplomatic channels.

I laughed at him when he first proposed some creative freelancing, but his persistence and repeated requests for my meager talents eventually landed an artist in residence at the Embassy with fairly consistent work... although mind-numbing menial at times.

There are a couple others who reside on Toast who create the occasional new issue, but the job title is generally mine. They don't really pay me well and sometimes I get fed up with the Knoph "just do it" attitude, but I'm still here... sucker for punishment, my friends say.

There are a few perks. I have access to postage for trading and sometimes I can get my hands on issues created on Toast that rarely leave the planet.

In retrospect, I guess it's not a bad life.

Hey Bill,

Renovations at the Embassy are at a seasonal standstill and the Knophs seemed to have forgotten I work here, so I've got a little play time... glad to see Colin twisted your arm enough to join. Still working a couple bugs out of my security set up and this new forum, but at least I can post now. Hope all is prosperous at Olathe!

Jonty,

Although I haven't gotten to the archives yet (entails a bit of timing), I was sweeping the floor of the philatelic design studio in an attempt to justify an afternoon walkabout to the Junction, when I unearthed a piece of cultural midden that had escaped my attention for a number of years... this is an early air mail issue that I created fairly soon after the Knoph's homeworld was publicly disclosed.

The stamp is a second run. The first issue has metallic silver that fills most of the text. The cost of printing the several early metallic issues proved to be a bit more than Ambassador Knoph wanted to justify, so Jack instructed that the reissue would be monochrome.

The stamp that is illustrated is a perforation error that probably missed the trashcan and slid under the flatfile cabinet where I found it this morning. I dusted it off and made a quick scan for your edification.

The depiction is a simple metaphor that points to 51 peg as the Clan Knoph homeworld.

http://www.knoph.com/stamps/51peg%20air.gif - 51 peg airmail

I believe Google can offer a bit more on the subject now:

Hi Steve,

Earth science has a long way to go when it comes to estimating the habitability of exoplanets.

Don't get me wrong... it IS hot. The first time I visited, completed the transit DeCon protocols and stepped outside of the facilities, I could only recall the lime kilns that I once cleaned while employed at Crown Zellerbach Paper when I was a young man. They never let them cool below 130 degrees before pushing me in.

But estimation of max temperatures is off by tenfold. It can easily get 200 degrees Fahrenheit (or more) in some parts, and admittedly most of the planet is http://www.knoph.com/stamps/dunes%20front.jpg - desert, but the habitable zones are usually in the 90-140 degree range. Cynnpass can be problematic. Most time there's a cooling layer of atmosphere that doesn't trap heat the way the greenhouse effect does on Earth, but that too has a variance that is tracked at all times. Weather prediction is a very highly paid profession on Toast.

As for mass, the closest analogy that can be made is that the planet consists of core materials that would be similar to enormously caverned, honeycombed Styrofoam. It IS a huge planet, but the mass is a bit less than Earth... thankfully.

The atmosphere is breathable, but it takes some acclimation. They call it http://www.knoph.com/stamps/bad%20air.gif - "Bad Air" or "Devil Air"... or worse. I never got weaned off the rebreathers that are issued to every new visitor. Most of the Knophs are pretty disdainful towards those who can't handle the difference. The worst effect is a giddy light-headedness. On the good side it makes drinking one pint seem like a great night on the town.

I'm constantly reminded not to talk too much about these things as there's an overriding fear of something the Knophs refer to as "planet envy". They want to allow Earthers to continue to believe the worst... so I'm kind of going out on a limb by revealing this. It's one of the reasons they made me take down their http://www.knoph.com/arky/ - website about ten years ago. I guess I can trust you to keep this to yourself, so I've put a bit of it back up... but also disabled some of it just in case. Most of what remains is an accumulation of postal bulletins and a little history. Maybe I'll post more later.

There's also another topic that I really shouldn't talk about, as I signed a non-disclosure agreement after I won a "very big" court case against the Knophs, but I can say that it worries the hell out of them... and I enjoy that. (insert smiling Buddha-like emoticon)

In any case, Toast has a fairly sizable population and it's quickly growing. There's not much to do during Cynnpass but stay inside and... well, you get the picture. It ends with lots of baby Knophs playing in a big sandbox.... and Cynnpass comes *quite* often.

The one thing about the environmental extremes is that it makes mail delivery a very hazardous occupation. Those early http://www.knoph.com/stamps/red%20rhino%20catalog.jpg - "Red Rhino Oversand Delivery" crews and the later http://www.knoph.com/stamps/jodroms.gif - "Jodroms", the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/flying%20gecko%20text%20catalog.gif - "Flying Geckos" delievery service and http://www.knoph.com/stamps/flying%20gecko%20pilot%20catalog.gif - the pilots who flew the routes, and the erstwhile http://www.knoph.com/stamps/hopp%20knoph%20catalog.gif - pilots of the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/sandscrapers.jpg - first models of http://www.knoph.com/stamps/IPC%20Doo%20Da%20front.gif - "Sandscrapers" are held in very high esteem. Mail is http://www.knoph.com/stamps/IPC%20Doo%20Da%20back.jpg - highly prized on Toast.

John Knoph and the small group who envisioned the Toast Postal Service never initially thought the whole schema through, but although painful at times, the growth of the TPS has come an exceedingly long way in a very short time. It mostly works. I'm happy to have played a very small part in that success. Yeah, I know.

By the way... Ambassador Knoph travels back and forth quite a bit, so I don't think "homesickness" bothers him. The rest of the Knophs are mostly critical of Earth politics, so they couldn't care less. However, Jack has many more persistent problems that are best left unspoken... unless you were referring to something else?

I suggest the Knophs spent a weekend in Blaenau Ffestiniog. That would really bring them doen to Earth.

Greetings!

I returned to philately four years ago after 35+ years away and have started thematic collecting and producing my own stamps.

I started producing 'Local Post' stamps or carriage labels (take your pick) and FDCs in 2006 for the http://www.paulovia.org - Principality of Paulovia , a virtual social, political and historical simulation or micronation which has existed since 1998. Some of the income from my philatelic sales is donated to charity.

I know a couple of members of the previous cinderella forum have purchased stamps and covers from me as they were complimentary in a thread that existed prior to this forum being moved.

I have an ongoing programme of limited edition stamps and covers. I've just issued a new set of limited edition flag stamps, FDC and a miniature sheet on 9 April 2010. We have some limited stocks of previous stamp and FDC issues available for anyone interested in 'alternative philatelic' items which are available from the http://www.store.paulovia.org - Paulovia Philatelic Bureau Store

My own philatelic interests includes flags, aircraft and military overprints / surcharges, plus any 'local post' or micronational 'stamps'. It is great to see a quality forum discussing cinderella's and local posts including Bill from The Olathe Post. I've visited his site many times for inspiration!

With Admin permission I will place a link to this forum on my philatelic sites.

Until next time.

ha! Well Steve, please believe me when I suggest that you don't want the Knophs any more "Down to Earth", than they are. They are the original "scratch 'n sniff" gene pool... but not in a good way. Jack's okay. At most times he seems to recognize that there's more than one person in the room. But the rest of them are more than oblivious... seems like there's some intent built into their bodily function at times.

However, I'm guessing you were referring to http://www.knoph.com/stamps/train%20stamps.gif - their penchant for trains as an affinity to Blaenau Ffestiniog residents. I've noticed that myself. In fact, they went to great lengths to transport entire lines of old Earth trains... wouldn't be surprised to find the odd "Blaenau Ffestiniog slate hauler" among the lot.

And cars! You wouldn't believe the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/upper%20crust%20cars.gif - old heaps that they love. Funny thing is that there's more http://www.knoph.com/stamps/slice%20ticket%20envy%20front.gif - laid train track on Toast than there is paved road. I've ridden the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/engineers.jpg - Toast Divide Lines once... and http://www.knoph.com/stamps/slice%20ticket%20envy%20back.gif - once was enough. Hot doesn't describe the trip and most of it was at night. And then there's the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/biplane%20front.jpg - old planes...

They love machines for some reason. It's strange because they come from old money that had little to do with machines... mostly printing and publishing... well okay, I guess the printing industry requires machinery. http://www.knoph.com/stamps/john%20knoph%20catalog.gif - Ambassador Knoph briefly told me in passing one day that the family once printed stamps for a short while about a century ago. I couldn't get him to elaborate at the time.

Their newest fortune was the invention of the push-button traffic light changer that allows a pedestrian to cross at an intersection. There are millions of them installed all over Earth but strangely enough... none on Toast. Weird. Jaywalking seems to be an artform of sorts. Anyhow, that's pretty much how they amassed enough capital to pay for the technology that transported the trains.

I call them the http://www.knoph.com/stamps/push%20button%20knophs.jpg - "push-button people".

I'm fasinated to read about the Knopf's penchant for old railways. There are too many of them now missing from these Isles and it would ne nice to know that some, perhaps even the Watlington Branch or the Cleobury Mortimer and Ditton Prior Light Railway, are not only preserved somewhere but also functioning.

But my reference to Bleanau Ffestiniog did not concern the railway. It is best exemplified by referencing to Malcolm Pryce's Aberystwyth books (heavily recommended). They relate the story of the early Welsh settlers in Patagonia who came from rather dour non-conformist backgrounds. They and the local indian communities compared their visions of heaven. The indians expected a heaven with much eating and drinking and all that goes with that. The settlers on the other hand had a vision that was the polar opposite and could only describe it as like Blaenau Ffestiniog (and because the Indians didnt understand railway) without 'choo choos'. The Indians all burst out laughing at this and then told the settlers that in their language choo choo was a very naughty word.

The reference was also directed at Blaenau's weather. Notorious for its mists which finally give way about lunchtime, permitting grey drizzle to fall. Well thats a good summer's day at least.

I hope to visit there very soon and just need to pack up the oilskins, wellies, emergency supplies, compass etc. I know I should take more but not venturing outside the town on foot.

Hello, My name is Christopher and I am new to this site. I tried posting before but I may have not connected correctly. So here I am trying this again. If I did do this correctly please ignore this posting. I have been collecting for a long time if I stated it before I was 8years of age when I began. I recently had gone to Auburn Ne. to the stamp show there. At the time there was not too many people there. To a point this was nice I was able to take my time and picked up A Mystery Box of stamps and a nice set of cinderellas. A few of the really nice ones that I picked up were (1) a Famous War Poster Minature No.2 which shows a Large American Flag in the background and a B-52 in the Front. And another is a picture (no writting) of an eagle with the body of a shield. And it also has the number 20 on the lower section of the legs. Plus a star above the head. Also the eagle is all in gold colour except for the shield, which is red with a white cross. Now I hope I am not boring you with too much conversation. If so I aplogise. I only wish to state that I am pleased to be on this website with the rest of you. Thanks Again.Christopher

Hello everyone, thought it was about time I reintroduced myself. I'm Alan, commonly known as Al, and my interest in stamps was rekindled when Colin and I started designing and illustrating Discworld stamps some years ago. It's good to see so many faces from the old forum here as well as new ones. That's it really, better late than never eh?

> I'm fasinated to read about the Knopf's (snip)...

There's a funny story behind that common misspelling... seems that the invention that was aforementioned was to be named the "Knoph" to satisfy ego I suppose, but the primary manufacturer was ThostenKrupp Nirtosta GmbH, a German company known for their quality steel. However, they inadvertently named the product "knopf", as that is a word in the German language that refers to some types of buttons... and it stuck. I intentionally use "Knopf" in some of my monthly reports just to watch the predictable knee-jerking from some of the more reactionary members of the group.

> But my reference to (snip) the early Welsh settlers in Patagonia who came from rather dour non-conformist backgrounds.

Ahhh... yeah, I see what you mean, Steve. Well, the Knoph's do love to party (a little too much if you ask me) but in a http://www.knoph.com/stamps/solstice.jpg - non-conformist way.

> The reference was also directed at Blaenau's weather. Notorious for its mists which finally give way about lunchtime, permitting grey drizzle to fall. Well thats a good summer's day at least.

They would never last a day there... Toast is not hot enough for most of them.

Myself... well even though West Seattle is now called http://www.knoph.com/pics/alki%20sunset.jpg - Washington's Riviera (climate change incarnate), I enjoy the cool misty/rainy http://www.knoph.com/pics/winter%20view.jpg - weather of years past.

The Embassy sits on a nearly 400 foot hill called http://www.knoph.com/pics/view%20across%20sound.jpg - "Eagle Heights". It's westerly topography drops off precipitously to the Puget Sound below. On a short distance north, http://www.knoph.com/pics/alki%20lighthouse%20lit.jpg - Alki Beach Lighthouse sits to warn the hundreds of ships and craft that pass by daily, when needed.

I belong to a loose group of people who celebrate cacophonous events that more or less spontaneously arise around the Junction. One of them we call "fog daze". When the fog gets so thick that http://www.knoph.com/pics/alki%20lighthouse.jpg - the lighthouse horn is set into action, we gather at the Junction with various and sundry brass instruments, tank up a bit and http://www.knoph.com/stamps/tybee%20island%20envy.jpg - stumble downhill to orchestrate the mournful blare of the several lighthouses along this stretch of the Sound. There are three ferry routes that pass through the area as well. So with the freighters, the lighthouses and the ferries, we celebrate the under the blanket. I have an early model Ford horn that has lost its rubber bulb, but when blown, sounds a magnificent bellow.

Of course, we insure several certain means of staying warm during the performance.

One of these days, I'll recount the joys of playing under ashfall when one of our local volcanoes blows. Now that's fun!

I'm Ande. I found a huge box of stamps in my studio when I was moving. I don't remember how I got them...

I have collected stamps since I was little, but I like to use them in crafts and card making. I wouldn't do that with an inverted Jenny... well, probably not... but I've always been fascinated with the itty bitty art on stamps.

I just started an Etsy shop called StampClub in an attempt to destash quite a few of these stamps and trading stamps (like S&H green stamps). Hopefully those who like to do shrines, ACEOs, and other paper crafts will have a good time with my collection.

Hello from Englishman living and working in Ukraine for Russian English Language TV.

I will admit that I am not a big collector of Cinderellas, but often find a few unusual stamps or books of stamps that are interesting and perhaps would make good additions to the collections of others.

Hope to learn from the specialist collectors and perhaps ask for help in the identification of some stamps that I have picked up over the past few years the origin of which are still unknown to me.

Thanks also to Colin for pointing me in the direction of this forumClap

Hi, I'm keegan and I collect British Island local post stamps. I got started about 30 years ago when I became the postmaster general for the island of Steep Holm by accident.
Since then I've been collecting and visiting as many of the small islands that surround our coast as I can. During the last few years I've been producing my own labels from islands that I manage to get to. Partly in an attempt to cover some of the costs of my travels but mainly to 'perk up' a hobby that could be said to be stagnating with so many islands that used to produce their own stamps no longer doing so.
I have read some of the posts and I look foreward to maybe coming across fellow collectors to swap material with (hopefully) Cheers

Hi Keegan,
Glad to see that you followed the link here.

Can you post some images of your stamps to share with the other members?

I can recommend them to GB local collectors. I only have a couple of them but can verify the print quality. The fact that you produce stamps for islands that you have actually visited adds another dimension of realism to them.

Good morning, all.  My name is Wes and I am from Missouri.  I have been collecting stamps and a little bit of everything else since I was about 10, so that has been over 40 years now.  I am rebuilding my collection after a nasty divorce and hope that eventually I can have one close to what I had before she sold it out from under me!

I post on bidstart forums now and then (mobarbq) and also belong to the MyPhilately network-polarcom is my ID there.

My interests are polar covers, naval and maritime, aviation and flights, special events and of course, local posts.  I have ran my own local post since around 1982, called the http://www.qsl.net/kg0yh/SpringRiver.htm - Spring River Local Post .  My current research project involves a historic Missouri local post called McDonald Territory Private Dispatch, and I am still researching it in preparation for next year's http://tinyurl.com/McD2011 - 50th Anniversary .

I have several Mailer's Postmark Permits, with Joplin, MO #2 being the one I use most often, and I have more on the way.

I've illustrated one of my covers that got returned to me last year, with the postmaster there applying their pictorial postmark and other markings over the top of my mailer's postmark.  My current Spring River Local Post stamp is to the left.  I issued this one to pay tribute to Walter Brink's Brook Hill Local Service, circa 1955.

Hi I'm Andy

I have been a collector of stamps since childhood, started out collecting everything I could lay my hands on but have more recently tended to concentrate on the the British Empire and Commonwealth years.  Modern stamps are just not the same!

I discovered the Discworld stamps when I bought the hardback Going Postal and that has led me into cinderella stamps in general. I particularly like those early Discworld stamps. I am still trying to complete my collection but am in no real hurry to do so -  I just buy what I fancy when I see it.

So that's me!  Thanks to all the people who pm'd me with birthday wishes. I apologise for not posting this earlier when I said I would. Time just seems to fly by.  I wish the forum the very best of luck.  It is about time there was somewhere online where cinderella collectors can talk about their hobby.

Hello all,

I'm Bernhard, I'm from Hannover and I have just found this forum through a mention or two in the latest issue of Cinderella Philatelist.

My main collecting interest are a number of serious micronations. With this I mean territorial micronations (even if not really serious) which have existed or existed for a considerable duration.

Prime examples for this definition are Kingdom of Elleore, Principality of Sealand, Principality of Hutt River, Rose Island, Christiania, Conch Republic, Freistaat Carnevalis to name but a few.

In the case of Elleore, besides stamps I am interested in coins and banknotes and basically everything else about the country, society, etc.

I would enjoy talking to people about such micronation projects, about British local stamps from the smaller islands around the coast, and about creating your own stamps with perforated and gummed paper.

I get the impression this is the right place to be.

Hello

I'm Paul and have just returned to philately after a 35 year hiatus.

My mainstream philatelic interests are flags and aircraft on stamps, Antarctica, and (for me) a rapidly expanding world of local post cinderellas. To this end I recently joined the Local Post Collectors Society.

Since 2006 I have been Postmaster of the http://www.paulovia.org - Principality of Paulovia (micronation), which donates a percentage of its stamp and FDC sales income through the Paulovia http://www.pauloviastamps.com - Philatelic Bureau to charity.

I am about to launch the Canvey Island Local Post which will be very 'local' in the true sense of LPs. More of this later.

I have learnt much since joining this forum and I look forward to exchanging views and news in the future, especially learning more about the world of philatelic alternatives!

Personally, I would like tips on how I too could become the accidental postmaster of an island.

Invent the island.  You could be known as the Mistress of Pharos and have a hat.

Hi, my real name is Jim and I became interested in Cinderella stamps through the creation of DW stamps. Although I no longer collect those, due to a number of reasons not least of which is money, I still have maintained an interest in these little pieces of paper with glorious art work. I collect presentation packs as well just because they are pretty designs and am probably a philatlists worst nightmare as I really have no idea about the things at all. I just enjoy the collecting. I had some really special stamps designed for my wedding last year which were amazing. All the wedding guests received either a gold or red stamp on their thank you cards and we got some amazing positive feedback on them. We have asked Colin and Alan if they might be interested in designing one for the birth of our first child who is due within the next two weeks. The response appears positive so far, just don't know if it will be in pink or blue. That's me really, mostly tied up now with baby stuff with an occasional look at stamps. Thanks for reading and hope I haven't sent you to sleep yet. Jim

Hi, Mark here...

Thought I should post something  Big smile

Started collecting DiscWorld Stamps after changing jobs & reading going postal on
the train into London.
Just a shame it was 4 years down the line - a lot of DW Stamp catching up to do
(But with a bit/lot of help - I'm getting there).

Think I'm as far as I can get on certain DW Stamps -
so now trawling ebay for FDC/Con Envelopes/Proofs in my price range Smile
My collection is growing - just not my pay packet Tongue

I was on the old cinderella site before it died - just kept meaning to log on here.

Cheers
Mark
Smile

Hi Hilary, I hate to shatter illusions or disappoint anyone but I'm afraid its just the usual sad tale.
You know how it goes and you've heard it many times before I'm sure.
The last thing I remember is coming round after the battle to find myself adrift in a small boat which is being boarded by the islands underwater fishermen easing themselves over the side with small shiny knives between their teeth, and so on yadda yadda yadda.....

Hi, I just want to say hello to all the members here. I am new to the Cinderella stamp area but it is the direction I want to go in collecting. I will probably have many questions because I want to learn so much about this area, so I hope you don't get sick of me.Big smile

Welcome DotJohn!

Cinderellas cover such a huge and diverse range of subject matter that we are all learning here.

As Steve says it is always worth posting queries here, you may not get an answer straight away but you never know, there might just be an expert lurking somewhere in the wings...

Dear All,

My name is Maggie Thompson and originally I had an ordinary philatelic collection of Germany, but nowadays I only collect the Saar area of Germany.

I added a 'fun' collection of philatelic triangles, and as it was a fun collection I happily took up the suggestion that I should include triangular cinderellas and revenues as well.

I really enjoy that aspect of the collection so now I also collect Saar cinderellas and revenues as well.

I have several unidentified triangular cinderellas, so I have scanned one of my problems to see if any other members of the group can give me any helpful information.  Please click the link and look at one of my current problems.

Thank you,

Maggie.

Welcome Maggie!

The Saar is not my specialist field but I am sure one or more of our members will come up with something useful for you.

Hello Maggie.

Germany eh?  I have a collection of mint Germanias that it has taken me the last 2 or 3 years to put together.  Of course it has significant gaps as there is not enough money in the megaverse to buy them all.  And I've been using software to develop an album to display them.  It's not too friendly though and it's lucky I'm old enough to have worked with "proper" programming languages!  I keep meaning to finish it off and sell copies on eBay to other suckers ooops I mean Germany collectors.

I've exhausted myself working though google images of logos with NMs or MNs and can't find a thing.  Did they come with anything that might give a context?

Hi All,

I'm fairly new to everything stampy. Bought a DW LBE back in March with the intention of maybe getting one or two proof sheet to frame and nothing more.
I think it's safe to say that that idea went out of the window as here I am 6 months later with several  proof sheets and I don't even want to think how many LBEs Ive expectantly opened in hope of a sport or prize.

Six months ago if you'd of asked me what a cinderella was I of relpied "a fairly tale character" LOL

Hello everyone!  I joined this forum because I used to collect Discworld stamps, and even went to a Hogswatch event once, in 2006 iirc.  The stamps then were exciting and there was a real buzz about collecting them.

I haven't bought any Discworld stamps for some time now but have started to become more interested in stamps in general. One day while trying to sort out my Discworld album I typed in askmeaboutstamps.co.uk by mistake instead of .com and found that the people who had produced the old Discworld stamps I loved now had their own forum.

When are you  going to get your own website and shop sorted out Alan and Colin?  There are so many of your stamps I would like to add to my collection.  Are there any new ones planned?

Love the forum here though and looking forward to making lots of new friends, I have a feeling I know a lot of you already.

Hi Bearstone, and welcome to our forum!

There are more stamps due, but not for a while. Stay tuned, but don't hold your breath!

No website plans either, we have thought about it a lot, but its a big step and we would want to do it properly, but never say never.

I hope you find plenty to keep you interested, and don't write off the DW stamps just yet, I am sure they will have something brilliant planned for this year's Hogswatch event.  I made sure I bought last year's Paul Kidby designed stamp, and the Quoth and Death of Rats sculpted by Ian, very nice work indeed.

Thanks Steve

I am only collecting other cinderellas and would never call myself an expert but I will try to contribute where I can.

I remember reading somewhere that Terry wanted the Discworld stamps to blend in with Victorian era stamps and I thought the first ones did this, but more recently the washy style of drawing and the way words and numbers are squeezed into odd shapes by computer on the newer stamps make them much less like the traditional stamps.

I could talk for hours about why I think the first stamps were best but I don't want to start any arguments here.

I have started collecting Lundy stamps and Gerald King's Alice stamps so when I have time I will put some pictures of these on the forum.  I am interested to see what Keith is doing with Gerald King's stamps on askmeaboutstamps, very exciting.

Thanks to everyone who pm'd.

Hi Dave

Don't be too hard on the more recent Discworld stamps. It isn't easy maintaining a high standard month in, month out, when there are always deadlines, events, margins and business condiderations to take into account.

I think everyone has their personal preferences for stamp design and just as not everyone instantly likes new Royal Mail stamps, so people will have opinions on cinderellas - particularly a long running product line such as Discworld stamps.

Alan and I have always been proud of our time designing for Terry Pratchett and although there are some stamps we are more fond of than others I think we set the standard pretty high.

Which Gerald King stamps are you collecting?

Hello Dave, welcome to the Forum.  Collecting old Discworld, Lundy & Gerald King eh?  We will be able to bore the pants off everyone.

My plan for askme at the mo. is quite straightforward.  I now have all the Alice covers and intend to scan them front and back (and maybe inserts if I get any time) and illustrate them in a Gerald section (so long as he likes the early pages that is).  I'm about to start on the Snark covers and I have some Alternative Lundy covers too so it could extend over time.  I have all the stamps and might add them but the covers are so much more fun and my spare time is very limited.

Given that the covers change over time, and Gerald's habit of just producing a couple for a bit of fun, I might need collaborators to extend the images over time.

Damn.  The more I describe it the more I get committed to do it!

Anyway, welcome again.

Keith

Your askme site is always going to be a work in progress Keith but well worth it from a collector's point of view, so thanks for all the effort, it is really appreciated.

Could we start a thread here where members can post their own efforts?  There seems to be quite a few members who make their own stamps and it would be useful to have any pictures of them all in one place.  I have never previously even thought about designing my own stamps but having found your forum I now feel obliged! Empowered even.

What do you say admin?

Colin - your comments about Discworld stamps are fair, I am not saying they are awful, just that they no longer fit with my idea of what they were once meant to be, and are no longer for me.

The latest stamps are a different colouring of the previous Uberwald stamp released at the Convention last month, and a reprint of the existing Halfpenny Post Office stamp but with a different drawing in the middle.   I understand what you say about having to do something every month though, I suppose they have been busy with the movie and new book release and the Convention.

But as i said yesterday i dont want to start any arguments here, just my own opinion.

Dear Keith,
I am only just beginning to get the hang of this site - I have visited several times, but not previously seen your comments about my MN stamps!!  Thanks for looking at my scans and trying to find possible sources of them.
No, there was nothing with them (to give a context), and I did not even get them together!!

Also re your German pages - I feel most collectors these days use a computer, and prefer to generate their own write up so that stamps and covers can be shown together if desired.
Pre-printed pages are too restrictive, I think the days of collecting 1 of everything are long gone.

Now, can anyone tell me how to get back to a post later, once you have left the site and come back to it.  I tried searching on 'local' but did not find the picture I had seen before - of a triangular stamp very similar to the USA Brook Hill local service.  I think the owner was offering some covers for sale, but I don't think he mentioned the fact that the stamp was triangular so I couldn't find it again!!
I suppose an old fashioned paper and pencil to note the section and page number is the answer, or is there a better way?
Thanks,
Maggie.

If enough members are interested we could start a new section called 'Members own work' or something similar (feel free to make some suggestions) where pictures of non-commercial artwork could be posted with a short description.

Perhaps it could appear under the Do It Yourself section, or do you think it should have a section of its own?

However we would need to be careful that members are responsible for the copyright and ownership of anything they publish, and also be aware that anything posted can be copied or downloaded so I would suggest keeping images small or low resolution, or carry some sort of watermark that would identify them or prevent their unauthorised reuse elsewhere.

And I think we would need to find a way of avoiding the thread being used for publcising commercially available stamps - we already have an area where traders and designers can advertise their stamps for sale, and this area would be for amateur, non-commercial artwork only.

And finally the forum owners would need to have the final decision on whether an image was suitable or not for their forum in the, probably very unlikely, event that anything posted should prove inappropriate or questionable.

How does that sound?

Would be great to see pictures of peoples efforts.
I think the Do It Yourself section would be the right place for it- there are quite many sections already, many with few threads, so I don't think you need a new one.

Anyone else interested?

I agree that Do It Yourself is a good place to put the thread...
