I would be interested, how about anyone else?

Colin, should the proposed cover ever get into print, please reserve one for me. Ta.  Wink

I'm working on it.  There won't be many.

I don't want it to hold up the release of the stamps, so if anyone else is interested please post here or PM me....  Wink

I'd like one too Colin if it ever appears.

But is it wise?  If there will not be many then is it going to cause grief and scuffling when only a few ever get into the wild?

And is it right?  Should each year's be issued only to members current in that year?  I think so.  That will make the early ones more rare and maybe establish a secondary market in time. I can't think of any other obvious philatelic examples of rarity being overcome by issuing more.   Or maybe the early ones could be reprinted (in new colours?) and used, as you suggest, on a Year 5 cover?

Possibly, but a bit unfair on those who have only recently discovered us

Ah, but these will be on covers and cancelled. The original mint singles and sheets will not be subject to inflation.

Thats probably asking too much of Colin. He has his hands full with just the stamps at the moment. Besides the year one stamp hasto be a blue triangle; not green, pink, or spotty

See!  I was right.  The scuffling has already started.

When I discovered, for example, Discworld stamps I didn't see it as unfair that I couldn't get hold of early rarities except by turning to eBay.  It's just life.

My reprinting of the early ones was a suggestion for a year 5 issue and even Colin can sometimes cope with a 2 year lead time! Anyway, I was trying to save him work, not add to the load.

I catch your drift now Keith.

Catching up on early examples is a bugbear whatever you collect. But in a way thats half the fun of collecting, and this is increased when you do keep off eBay and trade your spares for missing items. Just being able to buy items is okay, but the thrill of the hunt wins hands down.

As for year 5, that would depend on there being two more yearly competitions. I note there were fewer entries this year. We have a number of people capable of stamp designs here. why don't you all join in? The more entries we have the better he winner will be. Okay someone has to come last, but that's the same in any competition. Doesn't stop thousands of sportspersons entering the Olympics does it. And its not that you would have to print and distribute them yourself. Just come up with a cacthy design. Not familiar with computer drawing programs? You have nearly a year to learn the basics before year 4.

Some comments - and apologies for these being rather disorganised but I am short of time...

I have no doubt that there will be excellent stamps winning the contest for years to come. There were fewer entrants this year but the standard was very high.  There are plenty of people on the forum who make their own stamps and it's going to be the same brief every year so you all now have 11 months to design the next year's stamps (and/or the year after that too if you are feeling creative). AND you can work in teams so if you have a great idea for a stamp but not the skills to get it into a printable format (or vice versa!) then now is the time to talk to others about producing a joint effort.

From a design point of view I think a 3 year cover would look better than a five year cover. The winning stamps to date will look good together, but adding another 2 into the mix might be a bit too much.

From a rarity point of view, we haven't produced that many sheets in the past so tearing up another sheet isn't going to make a huge amount of difference to any secondary market. They will always be 'rare'. And as Steve has pointed out, it's not whole sheets we are distributing, just singles, cancelled and stuck down. And not variants either, just the standard stamps.  [I will need to have a 'Forum' cancellation stamp made...]

The request came from a new-ish member but if it is going to cause ANY problems with the older members then let's stop it all right here and now and perhaps think ahead to something special for the five year anniversary.  Perhaps a printed proofsheet instead which could also include the variants and wouldn't conflict with the gummed examples?

Nothing is set in stone. I only saw the thread after a few replies had already come in so have been trying to keep the conversation going to gauge feedback.

Let's discuss it here a little longer before any decisions are made.

A three year cover would be fine with me! As would a proof sheet with variants... Both would be even better!
