Hello Folks

Just to let you all know that I have managed to break into that Philatelic world with some Discworld Stamps.  I am no less showing DW stamps at the Norfolk and Norwich Philatelic Society's Centenary Anniversary show.

Haste ye all to The Forum in Norwich from Sat 22nd to Sun 30th Oct 2011 where I have 15 sheets of Colin and Alan's DW finest on show.  I have included some rare stuff including, I believe , the only known pair of AM $5 Blue Triangles, a sheet of early AM $1 Tower of Art and other interesting goodies and a sheet of Colin's colour trials for cabbage stamps.  After all Colin and Alan are Norwich folk so I have headed the display 'DW stamps the Norwich Connection'.

Please post any comments about the display so I can see how well it has gone down.

Architecturally speaking the design of The Forum is crap but beside it is the magnificent medieval St Peter Mancroft Church and the Art Deco Norwich City Hall  and all this near the Market.  You can also view the closed nearby Norwich Central Fire Station.  If there is a major fire in the city centre when the traffic is in its frequent gridlocked state, there is no way a fire engine will be able to get into the centre from the outskirts of Norwich.  Wonderful creatures these planners!!  Sorry for rant.

Hi David

I am absolutely delighted that against the odds you managed to get cinderellas into the anniversary display at the Forum, and flattered that they are issues designed by Alan and I. I am looking forward to seeing them when I am next in the city.

As a footnote did you know that when the City Council recently tried to sell the disused Fire Station for flats, planning permission was turned down because on inspecting it, the Fire Service refused it a safety certificate on the grounds that it constituted a fire hazard  LOL

And don't forget that the last major fire in the city was actually at the old Library where the Forum building now stands and despite that being the other side of the road from the then functional fire station, it stiill burned down, taking many of the city's most precious books and records with it - but also and more damaging in my opinion, leaving children with no proper library to discover books and reading in until the Forum was built with Millennium Commission money. Almost Ankh-Morporkian.

Thanks again David  Big smile Big smile Big smile

Congratulations David.

A good chance to show that Cinderellas have a place in philately and that as much, if not more, effort and skill is put into the design of these stamps.

Thank you Steve.  In fact I believe that Colin and Alan's work for DW stamps knocked spots off most of our Post Office issues.  The reality is that our PO issues have, with odd exceptions such as Penny Black and a few QV and then the Seahorses of GV and the PUC £1 of GV, have been  a pretty poor lot.
Eric Gill did some stamps designs in the 30's to 50's but on the whole they were ignored as they were too good.  The best stamp designs were by the Crown Agents for the old Empire and now Commonwealth, especially GVI.

I am hoping that the superiority of the stamps I have on show will show up well against the other 34 displays.  I gather that there are no GB stamps on show, they wanted my DW rather that QV!!
