Hello,
This is my first post here, I am on a bit of a mission to find out about this Cinderella. I recently purchased the block of 60 pictured below but can't find any info online. The only trace of them is the odd one stuck on envelopes from the era. Any info you guys can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Ben. |

Welcome to the forum Ben
This is not my area of expertise but I hope someone here will be able to help you out... The rows of perforating pins have an interesting flaw in them that looks familiar - could you count the number of holes per inch please Ben? If anyone here has any information about when and where these stamps were printed it would also be of interest to me! |

I began this forum as a place to discuss and share ALL cinderella stamps. It is my first forum and is not perfect BUT I will endeavour to make it the best available.
Any positive help appreciated! |

Thanks for your welcome and response.
What do you mean by a flaw exactly? There are 16 holes per inch. I originally thought they were from South Africa as the only trace I can find of them was individual ones stuck on letters from the region. But I spoke to an expert from SA who said he didn't think they were printed there, so I now have no idea. |

Thank you for joining! Our 300th member, and very welcome here ;-)
The pin bar has the occasional wonky pin - look at the ones 24th/25th from left (I am going cross-eyed trying to count but you'll see the ones I mean...) and this alignment is repeated vertically down the sheet. It resembles a pattern I have seen on other cinderella sheets so could be a clue to the stamp's country of origin. |

Malta issued a similar cinderella in 1941. Here's the listing from Revenue Reverend: http://www.revrevd.com/malta.html
The inscriptions and designs of the GB and Malta labels are quite similar. The Malta one was issued by the Government (and I believe it was sold at Post Offices) and is quite common in mint condition (about £5 each). It's much harder to find genuinely used on cover.

Thank you.
I see what you are talking about, I went cross eyed trying to count the number of holes per inch as well. It would be very interesting to learn where it was made, any idea where I could start searching for similar flaws? |

Interesting considering 1941 is probably exactly when the "Britian's Bombed City Relief Fund" Cinderella was released as well. I imagine it was released during or just after the Battle of Britain.
I see a lot more of the Malta Cinderella on the internet tho, where as the Britain Cinderella is almost non existent. |

There is currently an item on the Deverell/MacGregor ("SPECIALIST PHILATELIC DEALERS IN THE RHODESIAS AND BRITISH AFRICA") website described as follows:
![]() The "Britain's Bombed Cities Relief Fund V" sticker looks contemporaneous as, although it has no franking and could be a later addition to the envelope, it has the vertical blue line right through it in good linearity with the line on the envelope itself and those blue lines are typical of the period in my limited experience. Others will know more. There was also an ebay item sold by a US seller a little under a couple of years ago (so unfortunately no image on the historical listing record anymore) which was described as: "A nice March 3, 1942 postmark from Capetown, South Africa on a cover (with enclosed greetings card) that was censored in South Africa and sent to England. Nice franking and a "Britain's Bombed Cities Relief Fund" sticker on this interesting, historic item." So, if the above listings are accurate, the latter moves the date of the sticker back by at least nine months from the Cape Town envelope from December 1942 to March 1942. Notably, both items originate from South Africa.

Here is another envelope which seems to push the date reliably back into 1941 as the frank covers the V sticker. I think the frank is 16 September 1941. It again originates from South Africa.
![]() I wonder how reliable the expert was to whom you spoke. There seems like a lot of circumstantial evidence to support the South Africa hypothesis.

The expert was from the Rhodesia website of the first letter you posted. He thought they were probably brought to SA after being printed in Britain or somewhere else, although he was admittedly not sure.
