   Came across these stamps in a second hand book shop a few years ago. Does anyone know how they were sold?

	I have one of the stamps and illustrated it in the Recent Acquisitions section. One of the keys to finding out more information about them is the artist Frank Brangwyn ARA shown in the margins of the stamps, he later became a full member of the Royal Academy and was knighted in 1941. They were produced for the Daily Mail and Evening News Funds for the Red Cross c1915, both papers were owned by the Harmsworth family and continue to own the Daily Mail, the (London) Evening News is now defunct. 	I am not sure how these were sold, but can tell you that they were designed by an artist called Brangwyn. There are two newspapers mentioned but they were published by the same owner and so can be deemed part of the same set. The Evening News stamps were from woodcuts entitled At The Front and the Daily Mail's At The Base. There were others designed by Edmond Dulac, again mentioning both newspapers. I have a set of the Dulacs All these I think cannot be considered rare as their patriotic nature would have ensured huge print runs, but their age, subject matter and the quality of the designs ensure that when they appear on eBay they get numerous bids.
