Norway Radio Parts Revenue Stamp 6.0 Kr

RP-7B ROSE RED RARE SHADE

Bjørn Kristian Wang has a catalog of Norwegian Revenue stamps which is available online.  So if you are interested knowing more about these types of cinderella, there is a priced catalog available.

Arrangements for broadcasting in Norway were established by my grandfather, Einar and a user's fee was levied in order to raise revenue to finance the construction and operation of the radio stations.  In addition, there was a 10% tax on radio receiver parts.  The first stamps of this type were issued in 1924 and appeared  in coils of 3 stamps.  The upper stamp was imperforate at the top, and the bottom stamp had a margin at the bottom.   The stamps were affixed to radio parts or parts boxes; and were moreover very difficult to separate from the coil.   As such, they are typically found used, with some kind of damage.

This stamp has a small amount of wrinkling
at the top, a few adhesive stains.  It is in excellent condition for this type of revenue stamp.   It is also of the unusual rose red shade which Wang notes in his catalog as being "very rare to find."

Note the rather "wavy" font!   Very like the background in the Norwegian artist Munch's paintings.  The tortured "O" rather reminds me of "The Scream"

There is something of 'The Jazz Singer' poster in there too - I am becoming nostalgic for old-fashioned hand-drawn typography.  Lovely stamp.
